Visit to Poultry Integration Operators to Check Supply Status
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Supports Chicken Price Reduction Until Year-End
Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, announced on the 22nd that "the stability of chicken consumer prices is expected to continue for the time being."
On the same day, Minister Song visited Hangang Food, an integrated business operator located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, and said, "Due to thorough quarantine management last winter, the occurrence of avian influenza (AI) was minimized, and chicken supply increased, maintaining a stable supply and demand situation."
This visit was arranged to confirm the impact of minimizing the damage from highly pathogenic AI last winter on chicken supply and demand, to check the progress of the chicken delivery price reduction support project that has been underway since the 28th of last month, and to encourage the executives and employees of Hangang Food who are striving to expand chicken supply.
At the event, a representative of Hangang Food explained, "Due to thorough AI quarantine of contract farms last winter, there was almost no damage, so chicken supply increased compared to last year, and we are continuously expanding chick stocking," adding, "Through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' delivery price reduction support project, we are lowering the price of chicken supplied to large supermarkets by 1,000 won."
In response, Minister Song said, "Going forward, integrated business operators should take the lead in strengthening quarantine management of contract farms and expanding the production base to actively stabilize chicken prices," and added, "The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will also continue to promote support for chicken delivery price reductions until the end of the year to help alleviate consumer price burdens."
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to expand chicken supply by cooperating with integrated business operators and supporting additional stocking of parent stocks and chicks, while using emergency price stabilization funds to lower the prices of chicken supplied by integrated business operators to Hanaro Mart and large supermarkets until the end of the year.
