Korean Air Expands Codeshare Operations with WestJet Airlines
Canada's WestJet Airlines will allow passengers to book the newly launched Incheon~Calgary route through Korean Air and earn Skypass mileage.
Korean Air announced on the 21st that it will expand its codeshare agreement with WestJet Airlines starting from the 22nd. Codesharing is a partnership between airlines where seats on one airline are sold under the flight number of another airline.
Accordingly, the Incheon~Calgary route newly launched by WestJet Airlines from the 17th will be sold under Korean Air's flight number. Customers can purchase codeshare tickets using Korean Air's reservation and ticketing services and also earn Skypass mileage. Calgary is a representative Canadian city known as the gateway to Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains and for the lake "Lake Louise."
Additionally, WestJet Airlines plans to sell the Incheon~Bangkok, Incheon~Singapore, Incheon~Hanoi, Incheon~Ho Chi Minh, Incheon~Da Nang, and Incheon~Hong Kong routes operated by Korean Air under WestJet flight numbers. Through this expansion of codesharing, the number of codeshare routes is expected to increase to 36.
Previously, Korean Air and WestJet Airlines signed a codeshare agreement in June 2012. Since then, codeshare flights have been operated on Korean Air's Incheon~Vancouver and Incheon~Toronto routes, domestic Canadian routes via Vancouver and Toronto, and Canada~U.S. routes.
