Small Businesses Can Manage Safety and Health Easily... Ministry of Employment and Labor Distributes Guide

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 22nd that it will provide 23 "Industry-Specific Customized Safety and Health Guides" to reduce on-site anxiety and confusion caused by the expansion of the Serious Accident Punishment Act to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees and to help secure safety and health in small-scale workplaces across various industries.

So far, 20 types of industry-specific safety and health management system establishment guides and self-inspection checklists for safety and health management have been distributed, but there were voices from the field that the guides were thick and it was overwhelming to understand what to prepare even after reading them.

This guide introduces frequently occurring accident cases by industry through illustrations, easily explaining industry-specific hazardous and dangerous factors and the preventive compliance requirements for them, and presents the core safety and health obligations in a checklist format. It is expected that workplaces will be able to easily understand and implement safety and health preventive measures.

In particular, rather than being government-led, the guide was developed through meetings with about 25 representative associations and organizations for individual industries, such as the Korea Foodservice Industry Association and the Korea Accommodation Industry Association, to identify and reflect representative risk cases and hazardous and dangerous factors, making the guide more suitable and effective for the field.

Starting with the distribution of guides for four industries?accommodation, food service, security and cleaning, and logging?guides for 23 industries will be produced sequentially, and promotional activities and briefings for small-scale workplaces will be conducted with the participating industry associations and organizations until June.

Ryu Kyung-hee, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Headquarters, said, "We hope this guide will help small-scale workplaces recognize that establishing and implementing a safety and health management system is not difficult and assist them in practicing practical safety and health preventive measures."

She added, "Since industrial accidents can happen anytime and anywhere, we urge workplaces to conduct an 'Industrial Safety Diagnosis' and establish a safety and health management system tailored to their workplace conditions to prevent serious accidents."
