Native Speaker Online English Budget Doubled... Tuition Support for 1:3 and 1:1 Classes
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is recruiting students for the 3rd term (May-June) of the 2024 Native Speaker Online English program for elementary, middle, and high school students until Tuesday, April 30.
This project is conducted to provide students with more opportunities to improve their English communication skills by increasing the frequency of learning with native speakers.
Since 2017, the district has partnered with Gunwoo Edu Co., Ltd. to support native speaker online English content for local elementary, middle, and high school students. Last year, the district supported a total of 677 students, including 280 from general households, 315 from multi-child families, and 82 from low-income families.
In particular, this year, the budget for native speaker online English support has been doubled compared to last year, providing tuition support not only for 1:3 classes with native speakers but also for 1:1 classes. The district plans to support about 1,200 elementary, middle, and high school students this year.
The eligible applicants are students residing in Gangbuk-gu or attending schools located in the district. The education period consists of one term (2 months) with 90 minutes per week. Tuition fees are supported differently for general households, multi-child (two or more children) families, and low-income families.
The tuition support amounts for 1:1 classes (90 minutes per week, 2 months) are as follows: 30,000 KRW out of 150,000 KRW for general households, 24,000 KRW out of 120,000 KRW for multi-child families, and 60,000 KRW out of 120,000 KRW for low-income families.
For 1:3 classes (90 minutes per week, 2 months), the support is 30,000 KRW out of 60,000 KRW for general households, 24,000 KRW out of 48,000 KRW for multi-child families, and full support of 48,000 KRW for low-income families. Adults are excluded from tuition support but can take 1:1 classes (60 minutes per week, 1 month) at the contracted price of 80,000 KRW.
Students wishing to enroll can apply on the ‘Gangbuk-gu Native Speaker Online English’ website by the 30th. For more details, inquiries can be made by calling the Learning Manager Call Center (1644-4631) or contacting the Gangbuk-gu Education Support Division.
