Increase in Delinquent Tax Collection through Intensive Enforcement Activities during Nighttime and Holidays and Promotion of Tax Payment Awareness
Support for Economic Recovery of Livelihood Tax Delinquents such as Small Business Owners and Self-Employed
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will operate an "Intensive License Plate Seizure Enforcement Period" until the end of May for vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes and automobile-related fines to expand its own revenue sources and foster a culture of sincere payment.
As of the end of December last year, the unpaid automobile tax in Eunpyeong-gu amounts to 2.1 billion KRW, which is 16% of the total unpaid amount, and the unpaid automobile-related fines total 8 billion KRW, accounting for 69% of the total unpaid fines in Eunpyeong-gu.
Accordingly, the district has organized all employees of the Tax Administration Division into a special enforcement team during the intensive enforcement period.
In particular, this year, to eliminate blind spots in seizing vehicles that are not present in the district during the day, such as those used for commuting, comprehensive seizure activities will be conducted at night and on holidays as well. This is expected to increase early collection rates and prevent the accumulation of unpaid amounts before habitual offenders with three or more cases proceed.
A district official stated, "Using vehicles equipped with a delinquent vehicle inquiry system and smartphones that can check real-time delinquency status, we plan to conduct intensive seizure activities by patrolling vehicle-dense areas such as residential neighborhoods, apartments, large supermarket parking lots, and roadsides."
Eunpyeong-gu supports economic recovery by reducing the burden on livelihood-type small-scale delinquents, such as small business owners and self-employed individuals who find it difficult to pay the full amount of unpaid taxes, through methods such as seizure deferral and encouraging installment payments.
