Bucheon International Comics Market Selected for 'Gyeonggi-do Regional Specialized Convention Development' Public Contest Project

Bucheon International Comic Market (BICOM) has been selected for the 'Regional Specialized Convention Discovery and Development' public contest project hosted by Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization.

This project aims to discover large-scale conferences with regional characteristics and develop them into representative international events of Gyeonggi Province as part of fostering the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry.

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization evaluated 31 cities and counties within the province and private institutions based on regional connectivity, growth potential, operational organization, budget, program content, future responsiveness, international conference linkage, and tourism programs, ultimately selecting five institutions including Bucheon City as final support targets.

With this selection, Bucheon City will receive an incubation stage support fund of 55 million KRW and step-by-step consulting support from MICE experts.

Bucheon International Comic Market was promoted to achieve tangible results in the overseas expansion of the Bucheon comic cluster and the cultural industrialization. Based on the competitiveness of the comic and webtoon industries of Bucheon International Comic Festival (BICOF) and Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF), it planned domestic and international related conferences, business meetings, artist pitching shows, and tourism programs.

Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, said, "I hope this will be an opportunity to widely promote the content owned by Bucheon, the comic city, by converging the competitive comic and webtoon industries with the MICE industry." He added, "Furthermore, we will strive to proactively lead the future comic and webtoon industry to contribute to job creation and revitalization of the local economy."
