Ulsan City Waterworks Headquarters announced on the 21st that they are continuously monitoring chironomid larvae to ensure that tap water can be safely consumed.
To check for the presence of chironomid larvae, the raw water source is monitored once a week, and the tap water production process stages (sedimentation, filtration, purification, etc.) are continuously monitored 24 hours a day using a collection net test method.
Additionally, since the Ministry of Environment added chironomid larvae as a water quality monitoring item last year, the final purified water is examined once a month under a microscope.
To proactively respond to complaints about larvae in tap water, from April to October, five water storage facilities are selected each month for intensive investigation.
A Waterworks Headquarters official stated, “We will thoroughly monitor to alleviate citizens’ concerns about chironomid larvae and supply clean tap water safely.”
If chironomid larvae are found in households, residents can contact the Waterworks Headquarters Service Center.
Since 2020, there have been no reported cases of larvae found in tap water supplied through faucets in Ulsan City.
