Representative Lee criticizes statement "Yoon's support base has narrowed"
Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform New Party, made a statement about President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating hitting an all-time low, saying, "I believe the support base has narrowed to housewives, the unemployed, and retirees. Qualitatively, it is not good." This remark angered Jeong Yoo-ra, daughter of Choi Seo-won (formerly Choi Soon-sil).
On the 21st, Jeong wrote on Facebook, "The person talking about housewives, did you bring your mother out to shed tears and snot? Weren't you the one who got elected because of your mother?" Lee’s mother, Kim Hyang-ja (66), had climbed onto the campaign vehicle in the final days of the April 10 general election, appealing for support with tears. Jeong questioned, "Are you out of your mind? No matter how much you rose with an anti-feminist coin, isn’t it too much to say housewives are of poor quality?"
Regarding the mention of retirees, she also commented, "Retired people have played a role in the country and are now resting, so Lee Jun-seok, who rode the right lines and acted as a member of the National Assembly with an anti-feminist coin, is not someone who should belittle them." She questioned, "Does he keep crossing the line because he has a support base that keeps backing him despite his reckless remarks?" and added, "Is there any supporter who is not precious to a politician regardless of job, gender, or age? You should know that the office workers you know are not the whole world."
"It’s just a habit to insult everyone except the supporters he favors. Instead of having your mother come out and cry, you should reconsider your family education," she wrote.
She also criticized in a lump, saying it was in the same context as Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea’s remark that "People with low education and low income support the People Power Party a lot... because of the media," and asked, "Have you decided to become a Lee Jae-myung kid now? This is why people like Lee Jae-myung should not succeed. Isn’t it because there are more and more people who keep following and spouting nonsense?"
Earlier, on the 19th, Lee Jun-seok appeared on CBS YouTube channel 'Nocut - Approval Rating Strategy Meeting' and spoke about President Yoon’s low approval rating, saying, "(Approval rating) means there is no possibility of recovery," and "It means President Yoon’s support base has narrowed to housewives, the unemployed, and retirees," adding, "The places where intergenerational exchange can happen are workplaces or offices, but there, all you hear is criticism of the president." He also described the support base as "qualitatively not good," which led to various interpretations.
