Establishing Housing Stability for Youth and Newlyweds Facing Employment and Jeonse Difficulties

Yangcheon-gu Supplies 16 Rental Housing Units in Sinjeong-dong for Youth and Newlywed Couples

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will recruit an additional 16 units over five days from the 22nd to the 26th for youth and newlywed couples to fill vacancies in the 'Sinjeong-dong Customized Community Housing' project, which is being promoted in collaboration with Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation.

The customized community housing was established to reduce housing burdens and revitalize the area by providing housing at 60-80% of market prices to local youth with weak self-reliance foundations and low-income newlywed couples who are struggling due to employment difficulties and jeonse (long-term deposit lease) crises.

Applicants must be non-homeowners registered as residents in Seoul as of the announcement date (April 12) and meet the income requirement of 70% or less of the previous year's average monthly urban worker income.

▲The youth housing applicants must be unmarried job seekers or workers (business income earners) aged 19 to 39, and ▲the newlywed housing applicants must be couples married within seven years or prospective newlyweds. Detailed eligibility criteria can be found on the Yangcheon-gu Office website announcement.

The customized community housing is located in Sinjeong 4-dong (Omok-ro 23-gil 25 and three other locations), recruiting a total of 16 units: 6 for youth and 10 for newlywed couples. Youth housing consists of studio-type units with exclusive areas of 22.4 to 27.83㎡ (6 to 8 pyeong), while newlywed housing units have exclusive areas of 32.22 to 39.16㎡ (9 to 11 pyeong) and include one bedroom, a combined living room and kitchen, and a bathroom.

The lease period is two years, with the possibility of renewal up to 10 years for youth and up to 20 years for newlywed couples if renewal conditions are met. Deposits and monthly rents are applied differentially according to income standards set by SH Corporation.

Youth and newlywed couples wishing to move in can apply by emailing the housing department of Yangcheon-gu Office within the application period. After screening, the final residents will be selected in August, and move-in contracts will be sequentially made through Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH).

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “The supply of these 16 community housing units will ease the housing burden for youth and newlywed couples struggling to secure housing and provide a stable place to live.” He added, “We will continue to expand housing welfare projects to ensure housing stability for various demand groups.”
