The subtitle of the performance, "The Temperature of Romance," reflects the characteristics of the 19th century when Bruch, born in 1838, and Bruckner, born in 1824, were most active, as well as the subtitle "Romantic" attached to Bruckner's Symphony No. 4, which will be performed this time.

In the first part, Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor, Op. 26, composed in 1866, will be performed. This concerto is the most frequently performed work among the composer's pieces. Bruch, who was a violinist himself, composed three violin concertos in his lifetime, and this piece is the first of them.

The work was premiered immediately, with Bruch himself conducting the performance. After the premiere, Bruch made several revisions to the piece, with significant assistance from violinist Joseph Joachim, and the revised version was completed in 1867.

Joachim performed as the soloist in the revised version. In this performance, violinist Song Ji-won will be the soloist. He won first place at the 2017 Isang Yun International Music Competition and the Leopold Mozart Violin Competition, among others.

He is currently a professor at Ewha Womans University. While Bruch’s work underwent a single revision, Bruckner’s works are known for having numerous versions, with revisions considered central to the pieces.

The subtitle "Romantic" of BSO’s performance of Symphony No. 4 was given by the composer himself and refers to the term "Roman," which deals with heroic tales.

As it has a title, it is regarded as the most melodic among Bruckner’s symphonies and is beloved by many enthusiasts.

Following the ensemble of BSO, built on 30 years of tradition and trust last year, we look forward to the romantic melodies crafted by Artistic Director Oh Chung-geun on this continuing stage of history.
