KT "Developing AI Technology to Reduce Power Consumption... Enhancing Energy Efficiency"

Temperature Management in Communication Rooms... Improving Cooling Efficiency
Introduction of Automatic Control for Base Station Radio Output

KT announced on the 21st that it has developed three artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to reduce the power consumption involved in providing telecommunication services in celebration of Earth Day.

KT "Developing AI Technology to Reduce Power Consumption... Enhancing Energy Efficiency"

AI TEMS technology efficiently manages the temperature of telecommunication rooms where communication equipment is housed. Previously, to ensure stable service, the same temperature standard was set for all telecommunication rooms, and the cooling system had to be operated at maximum capacity.

With this technology, AI collects and analyzes the characteristics of the equipment and temperature information by location. Through this, it automatically sets the optimal temperature for the telecommunication room and operates the cooling system optimally. KT applied AI TEMS on a trial basis in four telecommunication rooms and improved cooling system efficiency by 24%, and plans to expand it nationwide in the future.

Energy-saving orchestrator is a technology where AI automatically controls the radio wave output of base stations. It analyzes the traffic of base stations to provide wireless services with radio waves that achieve optimal energy efficiency. It has been introduced on a trial basis at some 5G base stations starting this month.

Server power supply optimization solution is a technology that reduces server power consumption. It automatically analyzes the load on the central processing units (CPUs) of various servers and supplies optimal power accordingly.

Meanwhile, KT is replacing telecommunication equipment that consumes a lot of power with high-efficiency systems and continuously expanding energy-saving solutions such as energy-saving air conditioners and outside air cooling systems.

O Taek-gyun, Executive Director of KT Network Operations Headquarters, said, "KT will actively utilize AICT technology to enhance energy efficiency and contribute to protecting the global environment," adding, "We will do our best to achieve carbon neutrality in Korea by 2050."
