'Brigitte, a Free Woman'... 6 Episodes of 45 Minutes Each
The love story of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron, who overcame a 25-year age difference, is being adapted into a drama.
France Info reported on the 19th (local time) that the famous local film production company Gaumont is planning a drama titled "Brigitte, a Free Woman," centered on Brigitte Macron. The drama will consist of six episodes (45 minutes each) and will depict the process from when Brigitte, a 40-year-old drama teacher at a private school in 1992, met the 15-year-old Macron, to their marriage and her becoming the First Lady. The script is currently being written, and details such as the cast and broadcasting channel are yet to be decided.
Emmanuel Macron was elected president in May 2017 at the age of 39, making him the youngest president in French history in his 30s and marking a new name in French political history. However, what attracted even more attention was his romance with his wife, Brigitte Macron.
President Macron fell in love with Brigitte, who was 25 years his senior and had been his teacher in high school. At that time, Brigitte was a married woman with three children. Macron's parents, shocked by their relationship, sent him to Paris, but he declared that he would marry Brigitte no matter what. Eventually, Brigitte divorced, and the two married in 2007.
When Macron was an unknown politician, his love story with a wife 25 years older was a good subject to draw attention. However, as Macron's political career grew, so did the malicious rumors surrounding his wife. There were even rumors that Macron was actually homosexual and that his marriage to Brigitte was a sham.
Brigitte said, "I understand that people are surprised by our age difference and do not understand it," but added, "What I cannot understand is the aggression from those who go beyond mere surprise. It hurt and caused me pain."
Brigitte has three children and seven grandchildren, but she and Macron have no children together. Macron says that Brigitte's three children from her previous marriage and the seven grandchildren are all his family.
