Title also 'KOSPI, Israel attacks US mainland...'
MBC explains "Typo occurred during digitalization process"
MBC issued a major false report claiming "Israel attacked the United States" and corrected it after 1 hour and 30 minutes.

At around 12:19 PM on the 19th, the online '12 MBC News' reported that Israel retaliated by attacking the Isfahan region of Iran. At the time, MBC was reporting on the domestic stock market decline and explained that "due to concerns over U.S. interest rate hikes, the domestic stock market is widening its decline following news that Israel's missiles attacked the U.S. mainland." This was a mistake where 'Iran' was incorrectly written as 'the United States' regarding Israel's retaliatory strike on the Iranian mainland in response to Iran's counterattack.
The article title posted on the MBC News homepage also incorrectly reported as 'KOSPI falls more than 2% due to Israel's attack on the U.S. mainland.' About 1 hour and 30 minutes after this error, at 1:47 PM the same day, MBC corrected the article body to state "Israel's missiles attacked the Iranian mainland" and changed the title to 'KOSPI falls more than 2% due to Israel's attack on the Iranian mainland.'
An MBC official told Yonhap News, "There was no problem during the TV broadcast, but a typo occurred during the digitization process (conversion to an online article). Once the issue was recognized, it was immediately corrected."
Netizens who saw the false report posted screenshots of the error on community boards and mocked it. Comments included, "This is World War III," "The U.S. mainland was safe even during World War II," "MBC's wishful thinking?," "If the U.S. mainland was attacked, the drop would be 20%, not 2%," and "Even typos, lol."
