Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon responded to President Yoon Seok-yeol's proposal on the 19th to meet Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, next week in Yongsan by saying, "It took two years," and expressed hope that "this will be a starting point for cooperation."
Governor Kim wrote on his social media service (SNS) that day, "I welcome the meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Leader Lee Jae-myung," emphasizing, "It took two years to meet. There is much work to be done."
He added, "I hope this proposal will be a meaningful starting point for the recovery of the people's economy and cooperation."
Earlier, President Yoon had a phone call with Leader Lee at around 3:30 p.m. that day, congratulating him on his election as a member of the National Assembly and proposing to meet in Yongsan next week if circumstances permit.
President Yoon also said, "Let's start communication by meeting first, and frequently meet to have tea, meals, and phone calls while discussing state affairs."
In response, Leader Lee expressed gratitude for the invitation, saying, "I appreciate President Yoon's willingness," and replied, "I should be of help to what President Yoon is doing."
