"Politics Has Not Faithfully Reflected the Will of the People So Far"
On the 19th, the People Power Party stated that when President Yoon Seok-yeol made a phone call to Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and proposed a meeting, they "hope that constructive policy discussions and bipartisan cooperation solely for the people can take place between the ruling and opposition parties."
Chief Spokesperson Jeong Hee-yong said in a commentary, "As the ruling party, we welcome and strongly agree with the fact that President Yoon and Leader Lee have opened the door to dialogue."
Spokesperson Jeong added, "Our politics have so far failed to faithfully heed the will of the people," and said, "We have not followed the people's mandate to work for the recovery of livelihoods and improvement of citizens' lives based on discussion, negotiation, dialogue, and compromise, rather than extreme political strife and confrontation."
He further emphasized, "Ultimately, for changes that the people can truly feel to be realized, the political circles must unite with one heart," and stressed, "We are exposed to an unprecedented external environment across all fields including the economy, diplomacy, and society, and to successfully overcome this crisis, it is time to gather the strength and wisdom of everyone regardless of political factions."
