Hanmi Semiconductor announced on the 19th that it has opened its 6th factory in the Juan National Industrial Complex, Seo-gu, Incheon.
The 6th factory is a three-story building on approximately 2,000 pyeong of land. Along with the existing five factories at its Incheon headquarters, Hanmi Semiconductor has secured a production capacity worth 1 trillion KRW, including an HBM TC bonder production line totaling 22,000 pyeong.
Hanmi Semiconductor Vice Chairman and CEO Kwak Dong-shin said, "In preparation for the growing HBM market for AI semiconductors, we have expanded the 6th factory and additionally placed a large-scale order for core component processing production equipment worth 20 billion KRW. We plan to significantly increase production capacity starting early next year."
He added, "We have raised our sales targets, expecting 550 billion KRW this year and 1 trillion KRW in sales by 2025."
According to recent market research firm TrendForce, the HBM market size is expected to grow from 2.04186 billion USD (approximately 2.76 trillion KRW) in 2023 to 6.3215 billion USD (approximately 8.55 trillion KRW) in 2028. Demand is increasing as global big tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, AWS, and Meta, in addition to Nvidia and AMD, are developing their own AI semiconductors.
