The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is promoting the practice of ecological transition education and conducting research on mid- to long-term development plans for a sustainable future of the Earth.
On the 19th, the Office announced that this year it plans to operate a 2-hour annual carbon-neutral ecological environment education course during curriculum or creative experiential activity time in kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools.
Accordingly, the Office will expand ecological transition education by operating ▲Carbon Neutral Ecological Environment Model Schools (27 locations) ▲Gyeonggi School RE100 Project (44 locations) ▲Sustainable Development Project (15 locations).
In addition, it produced and distributed the ‘2023 Gyeonggi Carbon Neutral Ecological Environment Education Course Best Practices Collection,’ which compiles practical cases from the field by school level.
The Office is also collaborating with the Gyeonggi Institute of Education to promote the ‘Research on Mid- to Long-Term Development Plans for Carbon Neutrality in Response to the Climate Crisis’ to analyze the outcomes of curriculum-centered environmental education and various projects.
Jo Young-min, Director of the Convergence Education Policy Division at the Office, stated, "We will prepare Gyeonggi-style environmental education by utilizing various local resources and support students’ lifestyles and thinking to lead to ecological transition. Through policy outcome analysis, we will expand policies, reflect them in policy research, and establish the foundation for ecological transition education by 2025."
