Seoul's First New Year's Baby Family Becomes 'Yangcheon-gu Promotional Model'

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 19th that it has appointed the “Seoul City’s First Newborn Family of the New Year” as a public relations model for residents to widely promote the preciousness of life and a culture of celebrating births in the era of ultra-low birth rates, aiming to brand the district as a child-friendly city.

Chae Yi-heun, Seoul’s first newborn of the new year, was born at 12:04 a.m. on January 1st. Yi-heun’s mother, Go Hye-in, and father, Chae Young-ho, are residents of Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon-gu. Earlier in January, the district congratulated the birth of precious babies in the era of ultra-low birth rates by presenting a traditional baby shirt called ‘baenaet jeogori’ to Yi-heun’s family as a representative of newborns.

The district promoted the appointment of the first newborn family as a public relations model to vividly convey the policy of “Yangcheon, a good place to have and raise children” by incorporating the symbolic and friendly image of the first newborn family into district promotional activities.

The appointment ceremony held on the morning of the 18th in the district office meeting room was conducted with the concept of a traditional 100-day celebration table to congratulate the first newborn family who recently celebrated their baby’s 100th day. For this, the free rental service of the 100-day celebration table from Sinjeong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in the area was utilized. Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, who presented the appointment certificate that day, offered well-wishes for healthy growth and asked the family to play an important role in spreading a child-friendly culture as public relations models.

The Yangcheon family public relations model will appear in various promotional media produced and published by the district in the future, including newsletters, press releases, SNS, brochures, and videos.

Chae Young-ho, the father of the first newborn family, said, “As a native of Yangcheon who attended elementary, middle, and high school here and continued my youth ties to start a family, I am truly happy to participate in the public relations model activities with my beloved family in Yangcheon.” He added, “I look forward to the future of my child growing up happily and healthily in the educational city of Yangcheon, and I will work hard to help widely promote Yangcheon’s key policies and projects as a family public relations model.”

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Raising children is now a national task, and Yangcheon-gu is implementing various policies to overcome low birth rates. I am grateful to the family of Yi-heun, the first newborn of the new year, for willingly joining this journey.” He continued, “We will actively promote well-structured birth and childcare support policies so that every moment of having and raising children in Yangcheon will be remembered with joy.”

The district is implementing 55 policies across four major areas covering the entire process from pregnancy preparation to infertility, childbirth, and childcare to overcome low birth rates. To prepare for emergencies such as sudden overnight work, business trips, accidents, or hospitalizations for dual-income or single-parent families, last year the district introduced the “Yangcheon-style Overnight Emergency Care Childcare Center,” a year-round, night and late-night specialized service, the first of its kind among Seoul’s autonomous districts, which was highly praised for strengthening the public nature of childcare. This year, following 24-hour overnight care, the district is providing a “Weekend Childcare Service” that allows parents who need childcare due to weekend work or other reasons to conveniently use the service for the necessary amount of time, minimizing childcare gaps.
