Seongnam City Operates 'Housing Safety Manager' to Prevent Rental Scams Targeting Youth

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province appointed 16 licensed real estate agents as Housing Safety Managers on the 19th to assist young single-person households facing difficulties with real estate lease contracts. The Housing Safety Managers consist of licensed real estate agents recommended by the Korea Association of Realtors, with an average experience of 15 years.

They provide services such as ▲professional consultation related to lease contracts for young workers ▲review of documents like the registry and mortgage amounts to prevent lease fraud ▲information on lease prices in the intended residential area and housing support policies ▲accompaniment for house viewings.

Consultations will be held from May 2 to December 26, every Monday and Thursday from 2 PM to 6 PM at regional hubs including the Youth Support Center seminar room near Sujin Station, the Central Underground Shopping Mall conference room, and the second floor of Jeongja Youth Training Center.

Service applications can be made through the Seongnam City website (banner window) or the Youth Support Center website (Youth INFO → Youth Policy).

This service is an excellent proposal selected during last year’s resident participatory budget project contest. Seongnam citizens proposed the related project under the title “Youth Housing Safety Companion,” which led to its implementation.

A Seongnam City official stated, "Nationwide, 70% of the 9,109 victims of lease fraud are young people," adding, "We will provide customized services to young people vulnerable to housing information to prevent real estate contract damages and support stable housing."

Meanwhile, among the 160,137 single-person households in the Seongnam area, 47,574 households are young people aged 19 to 34.
