Gangseo-gu to Hold Disability Day Ceremony on 18th... District Mayor Jin Emphasizes Improvement of Welfare for Disabled
Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo District Office in Seoul, attended the '44th Disability Day Commemoration Ceremony' held at Gayang Sports Center on the 18th.
The event was divided into two parts: the first part was the commemoration ceremony, and the second part was a gathering for harmony, with about 1,000 participants including Mayor Jin, people with disabilities and their families, disability organizations, and local residents. The program included the reading of the Disability Human Rights Charter, awarding of commendations to contributors to disability welfare, and congratulatory performances.
The district designated the period until the 21st as Disability Week to mark Disability Day and prepared various events to improve awareness of the rights and social participation of people with disabilities.
On the 19th, a policy forum to support the independence of people with disabilities will be held, focusing on expanding employment for basic livelihood security recipients with disabilities. On the 20th, a 'One Step of Love Walking Contest' where people with and without disabilities walk together will take place around the Seoul Botanical Garden.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "The Disability Day Commemoration Ceremony is a very meaningful day to enhance understanding and empathy for people with disabilities and to inspire their rehabilitation will," adding, "As the event's slogan, 'Our Whole Heart Becoming One,' suggests, we will create a happy welfare and health city together."
