According to the police, they secured a statement from a daycare center official that the accident occurred while the baby was napping after drinking formula milk around 1 PM on the day of the incident.

The autopsy results of the deceased baby did not confirm any external force directly related to the cause of death.

The police plan to conduct a forensic investigation of the daycare center’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) and investigate the detailed circumstances of the baby's death.

There have been past incidents of sudden infant death at daycare centers. On July 21 last year, at around 2:09 PM, a teacher discovered that 3-year-old girl A was not breathing at a daycare center in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, and reported it to the fire department. On the day of the incident, A was taking a nap with other children after lunch and reportedly showed no movement for about 50 minutes. At that time, the teacher in charge was writing a notification through a mobile phone application.

When found, there were traces of vomit around A’s mouth, and she had stopped breathing. The 119 emergency medical team that arrived at the scene transported A to the hospital, but she ultimately passed away. The doctor at the time gave an opinion of "hypoxia of unknown cause."
