The Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency held a meeting with local internet companies in Beijing, China, requesting Chinese companies providing services in Korea to strictly comply with our personal information protection laws.

Choi Jang-hyuk, Vice Chairman of the Personal Information Protection Commission, held a meeting with Tian Jiachun, Vice Chairman of the China Internet Association, and about ten Chinese companies including AliExpress and Pinduoduo (Temu). During the meeting, they explained Korea's personal information protection regulations and particularly highlighted the points that overseas businesses need to pay attention to for compliance. This was intended to raise awareness of Korean laws within the Chinese industry, considering the recent surge in domestic users utilizing Chinese online services.
Vice Chairman Choi stated, "In a borderless digital world, the entire globe must work together to protect personal information," and added, "We hope efforts will be made not only in China but also to improve the level of personal information protection for Korean users."
Additionally, Vice Chairman Choi held a meeting with Korean companies operating in China to provide guidance on the latest regulatory trends in China and to listen to the difficulties faced by these companies.
The Personal Information Protection Commission plans to continue providing regulatory compliance guidance to overseas businesses through broad international cooperation to ensure that the personal information of our citizens is safely protected both domestically and abroad.
