President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Evan Greenberg, Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council, on the afternoon of the 18th and requested an expansion of American companies' investments in Korean firms, the Presidential Office announced.
Chairman Greenberg is the Chairman and CEO of the global insurance company Chubb and was elected as the 9th Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council in December last year. This visit marked his first trip to Korea since taking office.
President Yoon stated, "I understand that Chairman Greenberg has a special connection to Korea, as his father, Maurice Greenberg, former Chairman of AIG, participated in the Korean War and served as the 4th Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council from 2003 to 2005." He expressed gratitude for Chairman Greenberg's continued contribution to the development of Korea-U.S. relations across generations.
He also emphasized, "The support and contribution of the business communities of both countries are essential for the continuous development of the Korea-U.S. alliance and the strengthening of economic cooperation between Korea and the U.S." He urged the U.S.-Korea Business Council to continue its efforts to facilitate the smooth operations of Korean companies in the United States. President Yoon then introduced the Korean government's efforts to create a world-class investment environment and requested that more American companies take an interest in investing in Korea.
Chairman Greenberg expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful for the sincere respect shown by the Korean government and people to the Korean War veterans, including my father." He added, "As Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council, I am proud to serve as a strong supporter of the development of bilateral relations."
Chairman Greenberg stated, "In the rapidly changing global landscape, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries are what further strengthen the Korea-U.S. security alliance." He also said, "I am a free-trade advocate and fully support President Yoon's leadership in eliminating unnecessary regulations and promoting investment in advanced sectors to expand the global market."
Furthermore, he shared that having traveled to Korea for decades and engaged in economic exchanges, he has witnessed Korea's remarkable economic development. He added, "At the level of the U.S.-Korea Business Council, we will actively support mutual investment and cooperation between companies of both countries and fulfill the necessary roles to promote economic development and strengthen the Korea-U.S. alliance."
