Prosecutors Indict Gang Who Stole 100 Million Won Using 'Coin Trading' Bait and Fled

The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Seok-gyu) announced on the 18th that five of the ten suspects accused of quasi-special robbery and other charges have been detained and indicted, while the remaining five were indicted without detention.

They are accused of luring a victim in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 21st of last month by saying, "We will sell coins cheaper than the market price," then pretending to count the transaction amount of 100 million won before fleeing with the money. They are also charged with assaulting the victim's party during the incident.

Through supplementary investigations including confrontation interviews, analysis of CCTV and black box footage capturing the crime scene, the prosecution confirmed that these individuals, who are friends or senior-junior acquaintances, obtained information about the victim targeted for the crime via Telegram, meticulously planned the crime, and systematically divided roles to carry out the offense.

A prosecution official stated, "We will make every effort to maintain the prosecution to ensure that the defendants receive punishment commensurate with their crimes, and will continue to respond strictly to organized crimes that steal cash under the pretense of cryptocurrency trading."
