Targeting 1,673 4th-6th Grade Students... Starting with Shinyang Elementary, Visiting 4 Schools Until July
Expert Instructors Teach Causes and Responses to Climate Crisis... Customized Lessons Linked to Curriculum
High Engagement Through Board Game-Based Interactive Methods, Expecting Strong Environmental Awareness Establishment
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is operating a "Visiting Environmental Education" program to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection among 4th to 6th grade elementary school students.
A community instructor appointed by the district teaches climate crisis response methods in an engaging way tailored to the elementary students' level. This education program was prepared to help students recognize the seriousness of environmental issues and develop a sense of responsibility.
The program will visit four schools by July. It targets 76 classes from ShinYang Elementary School, Dongja Elementary School, Yangjin Elementary School, and Shinja Elementary School, which applied in advance, with 1,673 enrolled students participating. Customized lessons linked to school curricula will help establish environmental awareness.
The classes began on the 2nd at ShinYang Elementary School. Basic knowledge such as causes of abnormal climate and countermeasures was provided, and daily practices for carbon reduction were taught. In particular, an interesting method using board games attracted students' attention and encouraged active participation.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I hope children, who are the future generation, have a meaningful time realizing the necessity of environmental protection early on," and added, "We will spare no effort in encouraging the local community to take action to overcome the climate crisis."
