Seungro Lee, Seongbuk-gu Mayor, Receives 2024 Korea ESG Administrative Award

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, received the Administrative Grand Prize at the ‘2024 Korea ESG Awards Ceremony’.


The ‘Korea ESG Awards,’ hosted by the Korea Legislative Assembly (Chairman Seo Jeong-yeol) and the Korean ESG Society, and organized by the Korea ESG Foundation, aim to improve the quality of life for local residents, lead efforts to prevent local extinction, and help Korea become a global leader in ESG. The first awards ceremony was held on the 17th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building.


Since the 7th term of the elected mayor, under the slogan ‘Finding Answers on the Ground,’ Mayor Lee has been highly praised for enhancing both the institutional scope and qualitative level of resident participation through initiatives such as operating the On-site Mayor’s Office, a representative platform for resident communication, and expanding resident autonomy councils to all 20 neighborhoods.


He was also recognized for administrative capabilities in various fields, including establishing the nation’s first digital archive among autonomous districts (Seongbuk Village Archive), creating the Gireum Youth Startup Street on Samyang-ro, an area previously dense with illegal and harmful businesses, and projects guaranteeing children and youth participation rights and the right to play.


Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “We will continue to tirelessly develop policies in the areas of Environment (E), Social value (S), and Governance (G) to ensure Seongbuk-gu achieves sustainable development.”
