Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 18th that it will hold the ‘2nd Together Seo-gu, Oitgil Walking Contest’ creating a 5.2 km miracle with residents along the Gwangjucheon Stream area on the 20th.
The ‘Oitgil Walking Contest,’ which started last year, is an event where participants pay a participation fee of ‘5,000 won’ and walk 5.2 km along the Gwangjucheon Stream, connecting hope with their ‘neighbors.’
In particular, it holds significance in spreading a culture of sharing in daily life through voluntary participation of residents and supporting young family caregivers (Young Carers).
After last year’s event, Seo-gu supported about 6 million won collected from participation fees as university entrance fees for young family caregivers.
This year’s event will proceed on the 20th starting at 2:30 PM from under Dongcheon Bridge (near the Honam Regional Statistics Office), following a 5.2 km course that goes around under Gwangwoon Bridge (Gwangju Kia Champions Field) and returns to the starting point.
This year’s participation fee will be fully sponsored to teenagers who are responsible for family care at a young age through the Community Chest of Korea.
The event, themed ‘Hope of the Green Spring (Discussing Youth and Care),’ will be led by teenagers and young adults and will feature programs such as job experience-linked participatory booths, live radio broadcasts, band performances and cheerleading, free family photo sessions, and an Oitgil acrostic poem event.
To this end, the Gwangju Education and Civic Cooperation Promotion Institute, Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center, Seo-gu Career Experience Support Center, Seo-gu Volunteer Center, Seo-gu Community Security Council, and Mujin Comprehensive Social Welfare Center are participating as cooperating organizations.
Additionally, various sharing events such as ‘Wanju Rice Ball Sharing’ conducted by the community security councils of 18 neighborhoods in Seo-gu and the ‘Anabada Market’ in cooperation with Beautiful Store will be held, along with diverse experience booths for children including drone piloting, nail art, and face painting.
Participants can register via Naver Form, and on-site registration will also be available on the day of the event.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “I hope this will be a meaningful event that shares and practices the values of sharing and solidarity,” adding, “We will implement essential welfare policies so that Seo-gu can become a warm family community where not a single person is left out.”
