Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps held the ‘Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony’ at Guui Park on the morning of the 18th, officially commencing disinfection activities.
During the summer, the average temperature rise causes a rapid increase in disease vectors such as mosquitoes and flies. In particular, due to climate change, the active period of pests is gradually lengthening.
Accordingly, the Gwangjin-gu Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps organizes a volunteer team every year to conduct disinfection activities aimed at protecting local residents from summer pests and various infectious diseases and creating a green Gwangjin with a pleasant living environment.
At this year’s launch ceremony, about 90 people including the Saemaeul Leaders Gwangjin-gu Council (Chairman Ahn Moon-hwan), heads of Saemaeul organizations, and chairpersons of 15 district councils attended and read the disinfection resolution, pledging systematic and meticulous disinfection activities.
Also, the volunteer corps expressed gratitude for Gwangjin-gu’s active support, including the purchase and replacement of disinfection vehicles and the provision of disinfection chemicals.
After reading the resolution, a demonstration was conducted using three nozzle-type sprayers connected to the disinfection vehicles. Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, who participated in the demonstration, personally disinfected the Guui Park area and encouraged the volunteer corps’ activities.
After the launch ceremony, the Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps will carry out full-scale activities until October. Twice a week, teams of three per district will be formed to conduct regional patrol disinfection, focusing on pest control in vulnerable areas such as market alleys.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I sincerely thank the Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps for leading disinfection activities with the health of residents in mind despite the summer heat,” and added, “Gwangjin-gu will continue to improve treatment to ensure that the volunteers do not face any inconvenience while carrying out disinfection activities.”
