SUV Vehicle with Illegal Modifications to Over Fender and Wheel Nuts
Wheel Nuts Excessively Pointed... "Concerned About Injury"
A vehicle dangerously modified its wheel nuts, which secure the tire wheels to the car, sparking controversy. Some online comments likened it to a slave car from the movie 'Mad Max,' but it could become a hazardous weapon to both the vehicle and people.
On the 17th, a post titled "Mad Max Live-Action Version" was uploaded to an online community. As of 3 PM on the 18th, the post had garnered 50,000 views and 400 recommendations, gaining significant popularity. The author, Mr. A, shared photos and said, "I encountered this vehicle while waiting at a traffic light. It had overfenders and what looked like 32-grade tire settings. When I looked at the wheels, it was truly terrifying." Overfender refers to the modification of pushing the wheels and tires outward beyond their original performance specifications.
In the photos posted by Mr. A, the wheel nuts on the front and rear wheels of the SUV are pointed like sharp needles. All five essential nuts per wheel were replaced, and the modified nuts, painted red, have excessively sharp tips that appear dangerous. If an accident occurs and the wheels are flung elsewhere, it could cause serious damage, so caution is necessary.
Netizens who saw the story reacted with comments such as, "You should report it quickly," "I only imagined it before, but it's surprising that someone actually does this," "They probably modified it thinking it looks cool," "What if a pedestrian gets hurt while turning a corner?" "It's terrifying, really terrifying," and "They're filming a movie alone on the road."
Meanwhile, many accidents occur annually due to illegal vehicle operations, and measures to strengthen penalties are continuously being discussed. Recently, broad interpretations of the relevant laws have included attaching camping equipment to cargo beds, making structural modifications, unauthorized changes to commercial cargo truck beds, and structural modifications exceeding regulatory standards for imported cars, all of which are subject to penalties.
If a driver modifies part of the structural device or attaches equipment and drives on the road without obtaining structural modification approval from a municipality-approved company, they may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.
