Busan Sports High School (Principal Yu Guk-jong) announced on the 18th that Yang Woo-seung won the gold medal in the U19 individual event at the '2024 Modern Pentathlon Asian Championships' held on the 14th at the Comprehensive Sports Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
Yang Woo-seung started the competition ranked 4th overall with a record of 24 wins and 11 losses in fencing, but dropped to 18th place after a somewhat disappointing swimming performance. He then placed 9th in the obstacle race and started the final laser-run in 8th place overall, with a 36-second handicap behind the leader.
Yang raised his pace early in the laser-run, his strongest event. In the final shooting event, he fiercely competed with Bae Jun-su (Gyeonggi Sports High School) for the lead and maintained first place by a 2-second margin, crossing the finish line with a total of 1505 points to claim the championship.
Yang Woo-seung, who also won the individual gold medal in the boys' four-event modern pentathlon at the '38th Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism National Sports High School Sports Competition' held in early April in Ulsan, continued his upward momentum by securing gold at this Asian Championship.
Yu Guk-jong, principal of Busan Sports High School, said, “I hope this victory will be an opportunity for all student-athletes to grow further,” and added, “The school will spare no support to ensure the fruits of their hard work.”
