Late Juseonok Go Donates Organs After Brain Death at Seoul Asan Medical Center
Actress Joo Sun-ok (38), who fell into a brain-dead state during theater practice, saved three lives through organ donation before passing away.
On the 18th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that Joo, who had been brain-dead since the 10th, donated her heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys (left and right) to two recipients at Seoul Asan Medical Center through brain-dead organ donation and subsequently passed away.
She suddenly collapsed during theater practice on the 4th and was urgently transported to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage. She never regained consciousness and was declared brain-dead at Seoul Asan Medical Center five days later.
The deceased’s family agreed to organ donation in accordance with her usual wish to help others. The heart and lungs were donated to a male patient waiting for organ donation, while the liver and left and right kidneys were donated to a female patient. Eye transplant surgery is also planned in the future.
She had devoted her life to being a theater actress. She appeared in works such as "Hakana," "The Wolf Grows from the Eyeballs," "Shout the Truth Against Power," and "Yuchippongjjak." Notably, on the 11th, the day her funeral was held, the memorial performance for the 10th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster, "I Call You," which she directed, was staged for the first time.
