[Featured Stock] Samsung SDI Advances Beyond All-Solid-State R&D to Mass Production Preparation... Leadership in All-Solid-State Battery Technology Rises

Samsung SDI is showing strength. Securities firms' analyses suggesting sufficient factors for re-evaluating corporate value, such as leadership in all-solid-state battery technology and increasing market share in batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), appear to be influencing the stock price. Hyundai Motor Securities maintained a target price of 600,000 KRW for Samsung SDI.

As of 9:34 a.m. on the 18th, Samsung SDI was trading at 404,000 KRW, up 4.66% from the previous day.

Kang Dong-jin, a researcher at Hyundai Motor Securities, explained, "Samsung SDI is creating breakthroughs in all-solid-state batteries by utilizing Argyrodite-structured sulfide-based solid electrolytes, the anode-free structure developed by Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, and silver-carbon nanocomposite layers."

He added, "Solid electrolytes at a level suitable for commercialization in small batteries are already being produced," and "Among sulfide-based solid electrolytes, it is estimated that much research and mass production efforts are concentrated on Argyrodite electrolytes."

He stated, "Research and development (R&D) related to all-solid-state batteries has continued across various fields such as polymer, sulfide, and oxide," and "It is judged that mass production is gradually becoming more concrete."

Researcher Kang analyzed, "Argyrodite solid electrolytes, which are expected to account for the largest portion of the cost in all-solid-state batteries, do not have high material costs," and "If mass production becomes concrete in the future, prices are likely to fall rapidly." He also mentioned, "In December last year, safety data related to high temperature and overcharge conditions of samples produced on the S-line were disclosed," adding, "Samsung SDI's prototype samples were stable up to 170°C."

Kang emphasized, "The all-solid-state battery business has already moved beyond the R&D stage and entered the medium-to-large battery business division," and "It is no longer part of the research institute."

He explained, "It is understood that sample requests have increased since InterBattery," and "Currently, the 20Ah small prototype cells are being scaled up, mass production processes are being finalized, material procurement is being specified, and preparations for building the mother line are underway."
