First Business Trip After Returning to Management
Visit to Eurocucina Samsung Electronics Booth on the Day Before Official Opening
Lee Seo-hyun, President of Strategic Planning at Samsung C&T, who returned to the forefront of management after five years, visited Milan, Italy as her first overseas business trip destination.
According to Samsung C&T on the 18th, Lee visited Milan on the 15th (local time), the day before the opening of the world's largest design and furniture fair, 'Milan Design Week 2024,' to attend the exhibition.
It is also reported that Lee toured the Samsung Electronics booth participating in 'EuroCucina 2024,' a kitchen appliances and furniture exhibition held biennially during the Design Week.
Samsung Electronics set up the second largest booth among participating companies at EuroCucina 2024, showcasing its Bespoke AI appliance lineup and built-in packages targeting the European market. Additionally, they held an off-site exhibition titled 'Future of Coexistence,' presenting the design direction Samsung Electronics aims to pursue.
After exploring the Design Week, Lee is known to have left the Milan area and moved to another region.
Lee’s recent activities appear to reflect her intention to continue the legacy of her late father, Lee Kun-hee, former Chairman of Samsung, by placing design as a core issue in management strategy.
Milan is the place where, in April 2005, the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee convened key executives for a design management strategy meeting and issued the so-called 'Milan Design Declaration,' ordering design innovation by stating that "Samsung's design is still second-rate."
Lee, the second daughter of the late Chairman Lee, majored in design at Parsons School of Design in the United States. She joined Cheil Industries' fashion research institute as a manager in 2002 and served as head of Samsung C&T’s fashion division. She stepped down from frontline management at the end of 2018 and has since served as chairperson of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and operating committee chairperson of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum. Earlier this month, she returned to management as president of Samsung C&T.
