Future-Oriented Cooperation in Defense, Electric Vehicles, and Infrastructure
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 17th expressed to Prabowo Subianto, the president-elect of Indonesia, that "Indonesia, a key partner in the 'Korea-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Solidarity Initiative,' will work together to promote freedom, peace, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region."
The Blue House reported that President Yoon had a phone call with President-elect Prabowo in the afternoon and exchanged views on ways to develop bilateral relations.
President-elect Prabowo served as the Minister of Defense under current Indonesian President Joko Widodo and was elected in the first round of the Indonesian presidential election in February with 58.6% of the vote, winning without a runoff.
Since the Indonesian Election Commission announced his victory on the 31st of last month, President-elect Prabowo has taken a leading role in resolving issues in the South China Sea and East China Sea, visiting China, Japan, and Malaysia over five days.
President Yoon congratulated President-elect Prabowo and expressed hope that "by closely cooperating with the president-elect, the Korea-Indonesia 'Special Strategic Partnership' will be further strengthened."
In response, President-elect Prabowo expressed gratitude for the congratulations and said, "I consider Korea an important partner of Indonesia," adding, "I hope to expand cooperation with Korea in various fields after taking office."
Furthermore, President Yoon and President-elect Prabowo agreed that "just as the two countries have developed cooperative relations in various areas since establishing diplomatic ties in 1973, after the new Indonesian government takes office this October, they will continue to strategically and forward-lookingly expand cooperation in sectors such as defense, electric vehicles, and infrastructure."
