Suncheon Nagan Pear Selected as a Representative Brand of South Korea

Awarded Korea's Representative Brand Grand Prize for Two Consecutive Years

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced that the Suncheon ‘Nakan Pear’ shipped by Nakan Pear Agricultural Cooperative Corporation has been selected as the representative brand in the pear category at the ‘2024 Korea Representative Brand Awards’ through consumer surveys.

The 2024 Korea Representative Brand Awards ceremony was held on the 17th at the Shilla Hotel, hosted by the Korea Representative Brand Management Office.

In the pear category, six brands including Nakan Pear competed, and the representative brand was selected by evaluating seven criteria such as initial awareness, auxiliary awareness, brand differentiation, and trustworthiness. Nakan Pear was recognized for excellence in five criteria: auxiliary awareness, differentiation, trustworthiness, quality, and loyalty, winning the grand prize. Suncheon ‘Nakan Pear’ earned the honor of being selected as the representative brand for two consecutive years following last year.

Nakan Pear Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, led by CEO Kim Man-jin, has 174 members producing 5,200 tons of high-quality Nakan Pears grown on 175 hectares of clean, sunlit land, generating approximately 15 billion KRW in sales. Additionally, through exports and shipments for processing, they are working to stabilize pear prices in the domestic market, increase farmers’ income, and develop new sales channels.

A city official stated, “Despite difficult conditions, we congratulate and praise the honorable achievement of being selected as the 2024 Korea Representative Brand through the cooperation and passion of all cooperative members,” adding, “We will do our best to secure new sales channels and increase farmers’ income by enhancing competitiveness through the production of even higher quality Nakan Pears.”
