Hong Nampyo, Changwon Special City Mayor, "Will Strive to Expand Cultural Base and Support Creative Activities of Disabled Artists"

Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, attended the opening ceremony of the special exhibition 「Touching Colors 展」 commemorating Disability Day, hosted by the Changwon Cultural Foundation on the 17th. He viewed excellent works by disabled artists and met with participating artists, related organizations, and affiliated groups to offer encouragement.

This special exhibition, planned for the first time by the Changwon Cultural Foundation in celebration of Disability Day, was organized to strengthen the creative activities of local disabled artists, expand the base of disabled art, and promote cultural and artistic inclusivity.


Moreover, to ensure the successful hosting of the special exhibition, 14 related organizations and groups, including the Changwon, Masan, and Jinhae Disabled Welfare Centers, Cheonggwang and Dongbaek Schools, Changwon Disabled Persons’ Federation, and Changwon Disabled Sports Association, cooperated organically to create a cultural and artistic space where citizens could empathize and enjoy together, which holds great significance.


In his congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony, Mayor Hong said, “This is a meaningful event where citizens can appreciate the high-quality works of disabled artists together,” adding, “I hope this occasion will help us recognize that disabled artists are important members of our society who elevate the dignity of our city’s culture and arts.”


He continued, “Changwon City will also strengthen support so that disabled artists can demonstrate their talents and creativity in better environments, and citizens can enjoy their artworks more closely.”


The special exhibition 「Touching Colors 展」 commemorating Disability Day will be held for 12 days from the 17th to the 28th at Seongsan Art Hall Exhibition Rooms 4 to 6. Visitors can see a total of 312 diverse works by 99 artists, including not only two-dimensional (painting) works but also three-dimensional works such as crafts and sculptures.


In particular, alongside the general disabled artists’ exhibition, works by mouth-painting artist Park Seongmi, artist Lee Jiyong, and Jung Eunhye, well known as ‘Younghee’ from the drama ‘Our Blues,’ will also be displayed. Additionally, in Exhibition Room 6, a disabled sports experience event hosted by the Changwon Disabled Sports Association will take place.
