Gangnam-gu Event Ban Due to Public Indecency
Cheon Haram "Women's Instincts Are Free, Men's Crimes Punishable"
The Reform New Party, which enjoys strong support from young men in their 20s (Idaenam), recently criticized Gangnam-gu for banning an adult festival.
On the 17th, Cheon Haram, a proportional representative-elect of the Reform New Party, commented on Gangnam-gu's decision, saying, "At some point, our society began to apply a strange standard where women's instincts are recognized as free and autonomous and as legitimate rights, while men's instincts are criminalized and dismissed as vulgar and disgusting."
Cheon said, "Just as women's rights are respected, it is common sense that men's rights should be equally respected," and questioned, "What is wrong with adults enjoying adult culture in a space where only adults can enter, in the form of performances or festivals?"
He added, "A society that restricts men's sexual self-determination and demonizes men's instincts is not a normal society at all," emphasizing, "It is normal to apply the same standards regardless of gender."
Cheon previously claimed that adult performances targeting female audiences proceeded without issue. He explained that performances such as the 19+ musical for female audiences 'The Man Alive: Choice,' 'Wild Wild' planned by Narsha, and the female-only 19+ show 'Mr. Show' planned by Park Kal-lin are performances with levels of explicitness not much different from adult festivals.
Cheon criticized, "When targeting female audiences, there is no particular problem, but when targeting male audiences, the performances are treated as immoral and inciting sexual crimes and face unreasonable pressure from local governments," adding, "Gender equality should be a standard applied equally to both men and women."
Earlier, Gangnam-gu banned the 'Adult Festival' (2024 KXF The Fashion), which was announced to be held in the cafe alley of Apgujeong, Seoul, featuring Japanese adult video (AV) actors. Gangnam-gu stated, "To prevent the festival, which commodifies sex and harms public morals, from taking place, we first sent official notices prohibiting violations of the Food Sanitation Act to about 300 food service establishments in the Apgujeong area."
