On the 16th, Jinju City in Gyeongnam held the appointment ceremony and general meeting for the '73rd Gaecheon Arts Festival' and the '2024 Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival' organizing committees on the second floor citizen hall of the city hall, officially starting preparations for the October festivals.
About 70 people attended the appointment ceremony, including Mayor Jo Gyu-il of Jinju, Ju Gang-hong, president of the Korean Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations Jinju branch, Seo Young-su, chairman of the Jinju Culture and Arts Foundation, city council members Park Mi-kyung and Jeong Yong-hak, heads of local cultural and artistic organizations, and related institution officials.
The organizing committees consist of citizens and experts from various sectors of society, with 31 members for the Gaecheon Arts Festival and 39 members for the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival. The chairpersons of each festival decided to appoint respected external figures to lead the globalization and further advancement of the festivals. Each organizing committee will take the lead in promoting the October festivals to meet citizens' expectations as a global festival city and to advance globalization.
This year’s October festival period was selected considering seasonal factors such as the flood season and typhoons, as well as holidays that can attract more tourists. The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival will be held from October 5 to 20 (16 days), the Gaecheon Arts Festival from October 10 to 20 (11 days), and the Korea Drama Festival from October 11 to 20 (10 days) at Jinju Fortress and along the Namgang River.
The Gaecheon Arts Festival’s Pungmul Market and the Korea Drama Festival’s Food Zone will operate from October 5, the first day of the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, to provide food and entertainment.
Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “Please prepare thoroughly with one heart and one mind based on your experience and wisdom so that the October festivals can be safe, successful, and enjoyed and loved by people worldwide.”
