6-Month Grand Debate Reflected in Policy Formulation
The Education Community Restoration Project sets sail on a six-month journey in Busan.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 17th that on the 22nd, it will hold the opening ceremony and inaugural discussion of the "Education Community Restoration Grand Forum" at the BEXCO Convention Hall in Haeundae-gu, targeting over 200 participants including students, parents, teachers, and citizens.
The grand forum, jointly hosted by the Busan Office of Education, Busan Metropolitan City, and Busan City Council, will proceed under the slogan "Restoring the Education Community, Busan Education Embraces Korean Education!" It is a year-long project aimed at exploring ways to promote mutual respect among students, teachers, and parents and to restore the education community.
The Office of Education has organized the grand forum with a strong determination to revive the spirit of "Jonsa Aeje (尊師愛弟)," which means respect for teachers and love for students.
The forum will focus on developing measures under three main themes: ▲ guaranteeing students' right to learn ▲ ensuring teachers' rights to educational activities and teaching ▲ restoring parents' trust in school education and fostering cooperative communication.
The opening ceremony on the 22nd will be attended by more than 200 members of the education community, including distinguished guests such as Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education (via video congratulatory message), Superintendent Ha Yun-su, Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan, and Ahn Seong-min, Chairperson of Busan City Council.
Following the opening ceremony, the inaugural discussion will be held under the theme "Exploring Ways to Restore the Education Community," featuring a panel discussion.
Kim Do-yeon, Chairman of Taejae Future Strategy Institute (former Minister of Education, Science and Technology), will serve as the moderator. Four panelists, including representatives from teacher organizations and parent groups, will participate, followed by a Q&A session between the panelists and participants.
The opening discussion will be broadcast live on the "Busan Education TV" YouTube channel, and the recorded version will be aired on television.
After the opening, the grand forum will be held nine times from May to July, with discussions on the three themes of learning rights, teachers' rights, and education community restoration conducted by regions including the original downtown, West Busan, and East Busan. The project will conclude with a comprehensive discussion in September.
The Office of Education plans to reflect the various education community restoration measures derived from this grand forum in the formulation of Busan education policies.
Superintendent Ha Yun-su of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education said, "This grand forum will serve as an opportunity to spark a wave of education community restoration not only in Busan but across the entire country," and added, "We ask for your great interest and participation in this grand forum, which will establish the foundation for school education through the restoration of the education community."
