Until the 29th of next month, Floor Leader Hong Ik-pyo will lead
New floor leadership to promptly begin tasks such as organizing the National Assembly
The Democratic Party of Korea will elect the first floor leader of the 22nd National Assembly on the 3rd of next month. Hong Ik-pyo, the Democratic Party floor leader, will maintain his position as the floor leader until the end of the remaining term of the 21st National Assembly on the 29th of next month.
Park Sung-joon, the Democratic Party spokesperson, said to reporters after the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 17th, "It was deemed necessary to hold the floor leader election promptly, so the election will be held at 10 a.m. on the 3rd of next month."

He added during the Q&A session with reporters, "Hong, the floor leader, will finish his term until the 29th of next month."
According to the party constitution and regulations, the Democratic Party schedules the next floor leader election in the second week of May. Regarding the advancement of the floor leader election schedule ahead of the original plan, Spokesperson Park said, "Considering the urgent national economic situation, the Supreme Council resolved that the next floor leader should promptly organize the National Assembly."
The floor leader position is usually held by senior lawmakers with three or more terms. Accordingly, the candidates for the next floor leader include lawmakers Kim Min-seok, Nam In-soon, Park Beom-gye, Seo Young-kyo, and Han Jeong-ae (4 terms), as well as Kang Hoon-sik, Kim Byung-gi, Kim Seong-hwan, Kim Young-jin, Park Joo-min, Park Chan-dae, Song Ki-heon, Jo Seung-rae, Jin Seong-jun, and Han Byung-do (3 terms).
