Introducing Reusable Cups in the Company Cafe to Reduce Carbon Emissions
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on the 17th that Chairman Lee Sang-hoon participated in the ‘Bye-Bye Plastic Challenge’ to promote a lifestyle culture of reducing plastic use.
This challenge is a nationwide movement promoted by the Ministry of Environment since last year to spread responsible consumption that reduces plastic in daily life. Participants post videos and photos of themselves waving both hands as a symbol of saying goodbye to single-use plastics, along with their commitment to practicing plastic reduction on social networking services (SNS), and then nominate the next participants.
To reduce carbon emissions, the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation introduced reusable cups at its in-house cafe ‘The Dream’ starting in October last year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51.1 kg CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) by the end of last year. In addition, it is promoting a project that provides jobs to vulnerable local groups for the production and cleaning of reusable cups.
Chairman Lee Sang-hoon participated in this campaign upon the nomination of Lee Seung-woo, President of Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd., and nominated Jeon Yoon-jong, President of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, Choi Won-mok, Chairman of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, and Kim Jong-han, President of the Korea Optical Industry Promotion Agency as the next participants.
Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, “I believe that reducing unnecessary plastic use in daily life is the beginning of carbon neutrality,” and added, “The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will continue to make efforts toward carbon neutrality from daily life to industrial complexes.”
