Samsung Electronics announced on the 17th that Paul Harty, a researcher at Samsung Research America, was appointed last month as the chair of the North American Broadcast Standards Committee (ATSC) Technical Group. This is the first time a Samsung Electronics researcher has been appointed as chair of the ATSC Technical Group.
ATSC is a U.S. standardization organization established in 1983 to research and develop next-generation broadcast standards. Approximately 140 member companies participate in the organization within the United States. The ATSC standards are used in North America, South Korea, and several other regions.
The Technical Group within ATSC develops and researches various standards for next-generation broadcasting, including physical layer, video, audio, security, and interactive services. Since joining Samsung Electronics in 2020, researcher Harty has led Samsung’s ATSC standardization activities, including incorporating Samsung’s HDR10+ technology into the North American broadcast standard ATSC 3.0.
Researcher Harty said, "As chair of the ATSC Technical Group, I will actively collaborate with industry experts such as broadcasters and manufacturers. I will focus on creating next-generation broadcast technologies that respond to the rapidly changing demands of the media market."
