Chevron Championship Expands to a Scale of Up to 11 Billion KRW

Total Prize Money Raised to $7.9 Million
Winner's Prize Also Increased by $420,000 to $1.2 Million

The first major tournament of the LPGA Tour season, the Chevron Championship, has expanded its scale.

Chevron, the host of the Chevron Championship, announced on the 16th (local time), two days before the opening, "The total prize money has been increased by $2.7 million from last year's $5.2 million. This year, it will be held with $7.9 million (approximately 11 billion KRW)." The winner's prize money also increased by $420,000 to $1.2 million. Last year's winner, Lilia Vu (USA), received $780,000.

The Chevron Championship had the smallest prize money among the five major LPGA Tour tournaments. However, with this increase, it surpassed the Amundi Evian Championship, which offers $6.5 million. The U.S. Women's Open offers $12 million, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship $10 million, and the AIG Women's Open $9 million.

Prize money for LPGA Tour major tournaments has risen sharply recently. The total prize money for the five majors was $23 million in 2021, but this year it has reached $45.4 million. It has nearly doubled in four years. The Chevron Championship also increased the consolation prize for players who missed the cut from $5,000 last year to $10,000.

The Chevron Championship will be held over four days starting on the 18th at The Club at Carlton Woods (par 72, 6,824 yards) in The Woodlands, Texas, USA. World No. 1 Nelly Korda (USA) will attempt to win five consecutive tournaments. Defending champion Vu, along with all players ranked within the top 30 in the world, are participating. Former world No. 1 So Yeon Ryu will play her retirement match. South Korea will challenge for the title with 2019 winner Ko Jin-young, as well as Kim Hyo-joo, Kim Se-young, Jeon In-ji, Shin Ji-ae, and Bang Shin-sil.
