Coupang is joining the domestic e-commerce platforms in strengthening paid membership benefits following the price increase of its paid membership, Wow Membership, as Kurly also enters the 'membership battle.'
Kurly announced on the 17th that it will offer a 3-month free trial service to all new subscribers of its paid membership, 'Kurly Members.' For existing customers, it is also running an event that provides an additional 2,000 KRW monthly reward points for three months. According to Kurly, by adding three free shipping coupons, customers can enjoy benefits worth up to 141,000 KRW.

Kurly Members is a subscription-based membership service launched by Kurly in August last year. The monthly fee is 1,900 KRW, and members receive 2,000 KRW in reward points every month, along with five types of coupon packs and up to 7% purchase reward points. Partnerships with external offline businesses such as CU, Coffee Bean, and Lotte Cinema are also provided monthly.
From the 18th of this month to the 17th of next month, Kurly will offer a 3-month free trial benefit to customers subscribing to Kurly Members for the first time. New subscribers during this period can experience the discount benefits of Kurly Members for free. For existing and returning customers, a payback reward points event will be held, providing an additional 2,000 KRW in reward points monthly for three months.
Additionally, both new and existing customers will receive three extra free shipping coupons. Along with the previously provided coupon pack of five types?which includes one free shipping coupon, one 20% Beauty Kurly coupon including luxury beauty products, and three Market Kurly discount coupons?customers will receive three additional free shipping coupons worth a total of 9,000 KRW. The additional free shipping coupons will be provided temporarily for one month.
Kurly emphasized that Kurly Members is priced at the industry's lowest level to allow customers to enjoy Kurly's Dawn Delivery service without burden. Dawn Delivery is a service that delivers orders placed before 11 PM by 7-8 AM the next day. Kurly explained that with these benefits, the number of subscribers has more than tripled within six months of launch, and the retention rate, a measure of satisfaction, reaches 85%.
A Kurly representative said, "We have prepared various events to reward our customers' steady use," adding, "Going forward, Kurly Members will continue to offer diverse promotions and external partnership benefits to provide the maximum benefits at the industry's lowest subscription fee."
The e-commerce industry has recently been strengthening the benefits of paid memberships one after another. This follows Coupang, the largest domestic e-commerce platform, deciding to raise the Wow Membership fee from 4,990 KRW to 7,890 KRW. Given the significant fee increase, competitors are enhancing membership benefits to retain customers who might leave Coupang.
Gmarket, an e-commerce platform affiliated with Shinsegae, will reduce the annual fee for its group integrated membership, Shinsegae Universe Club, from 30,000 KRW to 4,900 KRW for new sign-ups during the next month. This promotion is aligned with the upcoming first-half discount event, 'Big Smile Day,' and targets new customers who have never joined the Shinsegae Universe Club before. Gmarket plans to offer a one-year free membership extension to customers who join during the event period, meaning new subscribers can enjoy membership benefits for two years at 4,900 KRW.
Naver is also running a 3-month free promotion for its paid membership service, 'Naver Plus Membership,' until the 31st of next month. This applies to customers who have not subscribed to the membership within the past six months, allowing new subscribers to save 14,700 KRW over three months. Additionally, until July 15, all Naver Plus Membership users will receive a daily shipping discount coupon (3,500 KRW) usable on purchases over 10,000 KRW for products tagged with 'Naver Arrival Guarantee' for three months.
