BigKinds News Service Expanded to 104 Media Outlets

Local Daily Newspapers, Environmental and Sports Specialized Media Join Forces

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Press Foundation announced on the 17th that the number of media outlets providing news to BigKinds will be expanded from fifty-four to 104.

BigKinds is the largest news big data analysis service in Korea. It integrates big data analysis technology with approximately 82 million news database entries from comprehensive daily newspapers, economic newspapers, regional daily newspapers, and broadcasting companies. It provides original news texts and analysis materials.


As of last month, the number of visitors reached 7.04 million. The news big data analysis functions have been utilized to create added value in areas such as startups, public service improvement, investigative reporting, research, and education.


The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expects that the expansion of partner media outlets will increase the basic data, thereby improving the quality of analysis and enriching the analysis materials. An official stated, “Many of the newly affiliated media include regional daily newspapers and specialized content media in fields such as environment, sports, and children, which are difficult to find on portal news sites,” and predicted, “They will be widely used for regional population and regional policy development.”


In fact, BigKinds’ analysis functions are being utilized in the work and research of forty-eight public institutions and research organizations in the form of APIs (languages or messages used for communication between operating systems and applications). The Korea Press Foundation also provides BigKinds’ analysis functions free of charge for initiatives such as the ‘Media Startup Contest’ and ‘News Media Service Development Support’ to help create new media, digital services, and business models.
