Gyeonggi Province is holding the ‘Hanwoo Premium Meat Evaluation Contest’ for the first time in four years.
Gyeonggi Province held the first ‘Gyeonggi Hanwoo Premium Meat Evaluation Contest’ in 2015 to widely promote the quality and safety of Hanwoo cattle in the province, stimulate consumption, and help expand sales channels. However, the event was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that it will hold this year’s Hanwoo Premium Meat Evaluation Contest in June and is recruiting Hanwoo cattle to participate in the contest until the 25th.
The contest will be held at Dodram LPC (a subsidiary of Dodram Pig Farming Cooperative) located in Anseong.
Gyeonggi Province will select the cattle to be submitted and shipped through strict evaluation criteria, including document screening by professional institution judges and farm environment assessments, until mid-May.
As a side event, Gyeonggi Province will also organize the ‘Online Gyeonggi Hanwoo Children’s Poster Drawing Contest’ for children and adolescents.
Choi Kyung-mook, Director of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We ask for active participation from livestock farmers, producer groups, and residents in the Hanwoo Premium Meat Evaluation Contest, which is resuming after four years due to COVID-19," adding, "We will do our best to enhance the pride of livestock farmers in producing high-quality livestock products and to promote the production and consumption of safe, high-quality Gyeonggi Hanwoo that consumers trust and seek."
