World IT Show, Korea's Largest ICT Exhibition, Opens
Held from the 17th to 19th at COEX, Seoul
446 Companies and Organizations from 10 Countries Including Samsung Electronics Participate
The 2024 World IT Show, the largest information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition in Korea, has opened.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that the 2024 World IT Show will be held at COEX in Seoul from today until the 19th. The World IT Show is an exhibition that shares the latest trends in ICT and offers a glimpse into the future.
The event is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Information and Communication Promotion Association, Korea Economic Daily, Electronic Times, Korea International Trade Association, COEX, K.Fairs, National IT Industry Promotion Agency, Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation, and the University ICT Research Center Council, with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
This year, 446 domestic and international companies and organizations from 10 countries will participate in the exhibition held in a 7,000-pyeong (approximately 23,100 square meters) exhibition hall. Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, KT, Kia Motors, LG CNS, Kakao, and digital companies such as Juaenet, Little Cat, Graphene Square, Ant Reality, and Skia, which won innovation awards at CES held in Las Vegas, USA, in January, will form exhibition booths.
The '2024 ICT Technology Commercialization Festival,' which promotes commercialization through the transfer of ICT R&D achievements to the private sector, and the 'ITRC Talent Development Exhibition 2024,' showcasing excellent results from the CT workforce training project, will also be held simultaneously.
This year's slogan is "Innovation in Everyday Life Created by AI." Exhibits are designed to allow visitors to experience changes in daily life through AI, and industry leaders from various sectors will give lectures at a conference on the future vision of AI, focusing on generative AI and AI semiconductors, key topics in the AI industry.
The keynote speeches at the conference, starting at 11 a.m. on the first day, include Ha Jung-woo, Head of the AI Innovation Center at Naver Cloud, speaking on "Changes Brought by Ultra-large Generative AI and Our Response Strategies," and Park Sung-hyun, CEO of Rebellion, presenting on "Generative AI and AI Semiconductors." In the afternoon, lectures on topics such as healthcare, networks, delivery markets, mobility, and robotics are scheduled.
By expanding participation from big tech companies and overseas firms, the event offers a variety of attractions and provides practical support for the growth of promising digital innovation companies and startups through buyer export consultations, investment attraction opportunities, sharing of success stories, new technology and product presentations by participating companies, and awards ceremonies for outstanding companies.
At the ImpaCT-ech Awards, which select digital innovation convergence technologies, Samsung Electronics, which developed the world's first 12nm-class 32Gb DDR5 DRAM, will receive the Presidential Award. Six companies, including Eight Tech, which developed AI-based robot resource sorting and recycled raw material production technology, received the Minister of Science and ICT Award. Four companies, including FRT Robotics, received the Minister of Science and ICT Award for the World IT Show Innovation Award, given to promising digital companies and startups.
To globalize the World IT Show, diplomats including ambassadors from 15 countries residing in Korea will be invited to introduce the digital policies promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "Following the launch of the 'AI Strategy High-Level Council' on the 4th to leap to G3 in AI technology and dominate the future AI semiconductor market, we announced the direction of the AI-Semiconductor Initiative on the 9th." He added, "Next month, we will hold an AI summit in Seoul to discuss the safe use and development of AI with leaders from various countries, enhancing our international status." He continued, "We will continue to provide policy support to advance as a leading AI nation and exemplary country."
