Phone Talks Held Between Foreign Ministry Officials of Both Countries
Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko held phone talks on the 16th with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, urging restraint in the Middle East conflict.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the approximately 50-minute phone call with the Iranian Foreign Minister that afternoon, Foreign Minister Kamikawa conveyed that the current situation is not beneficial to Iran or the international community. She also strongly urged restraint, emphasizing that no additional tensions should be created in the Middle East. She requested cooperation in protecting Japanese nationals on site.
Following this, Foreign Minister Kamikawa also spoke by phone for 25 minutes with the Israeli Foreign Minister, urging restraint by stating, "Further escalation of tensions could lead to an uncontrollable situation." She also expressed concerns about the situation in the Gaza Strip and demanded an immediate ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian aid activities and the release of hostages.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will continue communication with Iran and Israel going forward.
