The Gwangjin-gu Disabled Sports Association (President Kim Kyung-ho, District Mayor) successfully held the ‘2024 Gwangjin-gu Disabled Community Sports Competition’ on the 16th at Achasan Reservoir Sports Park.

This sports event, which brought together 250 participants including people with disabilities from organizations and facilities located in the district, as well as their guides, was the first of its kind held in Gwangjin-gu and was conducted amid high expectations and interest.

Starting with a lively congratulatory performance by the vocal team for people with developmental disabilities, ‘Miracle Voice Ensemble,’ the opening ceremony proceeded in order with ▲opening declaration ▲introduction of athletes ▲athlete representatives’ oath. In the main competition, participants engaged in friendly contests divided into team and individual events featuring easy-to-join activities such as ▲rolling a large ball ▲flipping color panels ▲ball pool basketball ▲new sports archery.

In particular, the four teams named after the athletes?‘Communication, Development, Happiness, Gwangjin’?added a special touch by quoting Gwangjin-gu’s slogan, ‘Happy Gwangjin that Communicates and Develops.’

Additionally, experiential spaces were set up for participants to take breaks and create memories during the competition, including photo booths for four-cut photos, caricature drawing, and mini sports areas.

The district carefully reviewed wheelchair routes, installed accessible restrooms for people with disabilities, and set up ramps on the stage to ensure that sports activities could be conducted ‘without anyone feeling uncomfortable, together,’ echoing the slogan of the 44th Disabled Persons Day.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Congratulations on hosting the first sports competition of the Disabled Sports Association. I hope everyone enjoys exercising together outdoors and has a joyful time.” He added, “We will continue to pay close attention to welfare for people with disabilities and do our best to make Gwangjin a leading district where the wishes of people with disabilities are fulfilled.”
