According to the frontline local governments on the 16th, an interim report meeting was held at Suwon City Hall for the 'Basic Plan and Preliminary Feasibility Study for the Extension of Seoul Line 3 and Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railroad,' jointly commissioned by the four local governments.

The Line 3 extension and Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railroad is a metropolitan railway connecting Seoul, Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, and Hwaseong.

This report meeting is an interim review of the project jointly initiated in September of last year to verify the feasibility of the project, based on an agreement signed in February of the same year between the four cities and Gyeonggi Province. Each of the four cities contributed 100 million KRW to the study. KG Engineering is in charge of the project, which will continue until September 24.

The main contents of the report meeting included ▲technical review for route planning ▲future demand forecasting ▲cost estimation ▲feasibility analysis results. Attendees from the four cities and Gyeonggi Province exchanged proposals to cooperate in finding the most efficient route for the Line 3 extension by improving surrounding transportation conditions and proactively responding to various development projects.

Based on the results of the interim report meeting, the four cities and Gyeonggi Province plan to prepare the optimal route plan and have it reflected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan' as a new project.

A Yongin city official said, "Since expanding the railway network is essential not only for the transportation convenience of citizens in the four cities but also for urban development, we will do our best to find the most efficient route plan."
